FUnds To UndeRgraduate mEdical student

Brighton Council has partnered with a group of local residents to raise $150,000 to be used to financially assist a student enrolled in medical school.  The objective is to attract a student to practice medicine in the municipality upon their successful completion of medical school.  The student will be required to enter into an agreement to practice family medicine on a full time basis in the Municipality of Brighton for a period of at least five years.

This citizen initiative is being undertaken by local residents Tom Lance, Bob Bird and Hugh McDonald who formed the Future group. They have agreed to be responsible for raising $75,000. which the municipality will match dollar for dollar. ( Sadly, Tom Lance passed away before the project could be completed but his place on the committee has been taken by his nephew, David Lance.)

Tax receipts will be issued by the municipality for any donations received. To support this initiative, donations should be sent to the municipal office with cheques made out to " Municipality of Brighton -Future Fund.”

As of this writing the Futures group has raised over $70 000 needed to fulfill their task. They also report that there is a young doctor who is very interested in taking advantage of the Fund and who is negotiating terms with the municipality's CAO.
