Council Members and Municipal Staff were saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Byron Faretis late Tuesday night following a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Byron was a dedicated Councillor who immersed himself in all aspects of the Brighton community. He will be remembered for his attention to detail when undertaking new initiatives and his enthusiastic engagement in all the committees he served on. Byron's professional due diligence and open communication style will be missed by both Council members and staff.
Although not a longtime Brighton resident, Byron was proud of his community and always kept Brighton's best interests at heart.
"Byron was a valued member of the Council team. His dedication to residents was truly unmatched. He was thoughtful and thorough in his approach to decision-making, leaving no stone unturned to ensure Brightonians received nothing but the best. Byron's positive outlook and professional demeanor will be missed." - Mayor Ostrander
Before moving to Brighton, Byron spent 25 years in the food and beverage industry. He then started his own graphics business which he operated successfully for 18 years. After selling the business he became a resident of Wilmont Creek, where he was elected President of the Homeowner’s Association.
Flags at all municipal buildings will be lowered in memory of Byron. Our thoughts are with his wife, Elaine, and their family at this time.
Service details will be shared at a future date. A book of condolences will be available at the Municipal Centre (35 Alice Street) beginning tomorrow, November 21, until November 29.
