The community of Brighton, in eastern Ontario, is surrounded by rich agricultural land with an abundance of apple orchards and roadside farmers' stalls. To bear witness to the bountiful apple harvest at the height of the harvesting season, Brighton celebrates its annual Applefest festival over the last full weekend of September.
Stay tuned for official Applefest 2023 dates.
A note from the Applefest Advisory Committee..
As we look back on photos from this past weekend, it's hard to believe that after nearly 7 months of planning Applefest 2022 has come and gone!
Beyond our committee, Applefest is made possible by a number of different organizations, businesses and community groups who help to transform our downtown and keep everyone safe. This year we would like to extend our thanks to:
- Cheer Farms for providing the seasonal decorations for the Street Fair,
- Willow Publishing for printing all of our signage, maps and brochures,
- the Brighton DBIA and Northumberland Tourism,
- Andrew Clarke for capturing the day & Bay of Quinte for their marketing and creative support,
- the Brighton & Cramahe Chamber of Commerce for running their Tourism Booth to direct visitors at the Street Fair,
- Smithfield, Brighton and Spring Valley Public Schools, Sunny Days Group Program and Maplewood and Applefest Lodge Retirement homes for their artistic interpretations of Applefest which were painted on garbage cans with paint generously donated by Brighton Home Hardware Pro,
- St. John's Ambulance and Brighton Fire and Rescue for keeping everyone safe,
- our local and visiting vendors for showcasing their talents and passions on our Main Street, in the Children's Village and at the Car Show,
- all of the Car Show participants for making the trip to Brighton,
- the local service clubs and organizations for hosting their annual Applefest events,
- Pollywogs, NoFrills and Sobeys for providing refreshments for the Lighthouse Bike Riders,
- Ben Ruckhstul and his wife Ashely for coordinating the Kings of Strength Competition at King Edward Park,
- the HKPR Health Unit for working with our Food Vendors,
- the OPP for providing support and traffic control during the Parade,
- Martin's Bus Service for chartering our Shuttle Busses and Quinte Transit for ensuring accessible transportation was provided throughout the event,
- our incredible volunteers, Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff who kept the day running smoothly, and finally,
- an event like this is never a success without community support. On behalf of the Committee, we would like to extend our thanks to Brighton residents and our countless visitors who showed up and supported Applefest as we took it "back to our roots".
Until next year,
The Applefest Advisory Committee
