Citizen of the Year Nomination Form
The Alfred Gregg nomination period will run from April 14th to May 6th, 2022.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Alfred Gregg Sports Wall of Honour is to provide recognition for those residents in the Municipality of Brighton who in their time of residency in Brighton were distinguished as being an exceptional athlete, member of an exceptional team, builder of sport and/or coach. Athletes shall not normally be considered for induction until after a three year waiting period following their retirement from major championship competition or the performance of a particularly outstanding achievement that warrants special recognition. However, the selection committee may choose to waive the waiting period by majority vote if they feel the athlete deserves immediate recognition.
CRITERIA:
INDIVIDUAL CRITERIA: Must have participated successfully in amateur or professional sport, having performed in such a way as an individual or member of a team, to bring special honour to the Municipality of Brighton at a provincial, national or international level. Said athlete has been a resident of the Municipality of Brighton and/or represented a Municipal team, school or organization.
TEAM CRITERIA: Must have attained a high level of excellence and brought honour to the Municipality of Brighton sport at a provincial, national or international level. Teams are selected for achievement in one year only.
COACH CRITERIA: Has participated successfully as a coach in amateur or professional sport at a provincial, national or international level, having performed in such a way as to bring special honour to the Municipality of Brighton. Said coaches must have been a resident of Brighton at the time of the achievement(s) and/or represented a Municipality of Brighton team. Coach candidates may be either active or inactive at the time of consideration.
BUILDER CRITERIA: Must have attained a high level of excellence and brought recognition to the Municipality of Brighton through on-going dedication to the development of athletes, teams, or sport itself. Said builders must have been a resident of the Municipality of Brighton at the time of the achievement(s) or represent a Municipality of Brighton sporting body.
SELECTION COMMITTEE: The selection committee shall consist of the voting members of the Community Events Committee with support from staff.
NUMBER OF INDUCTEES: The number of inductees will be limited to: Teams-1 Individuals -2 Coaches-1 Builders -1 Note: It is not necessary to have one inductee in each category per induction.
RECOGNITION Inductees will be recognized in the following manner: a. July 1st induction ceremony in conjunction with the Municipality of Brighton's Canada Day opening ceremonies. b. Media Press release of the event in the local newspaper and municipal website. c. Display of wall plaque with picture and bio for each inductee at the King Edward Park Community Centre.
ADMINISTRATION Administration of the Alfred Gregg Sports Wall of Honour, including record keeping will be provided by the Clerks Department.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. All submissions must be accompanied by an appropriate photograph: ; That is of a good quality and suitable for reproduction; and, c. In which all persons in team pictures are identified by name in order, left to right sequence.
2. All research and information gathered is the responsibility of the nominator.
3. Attach all photocopies of articles from newspapers, etc., with names and dates if possible.
4. Complete all pages of the nomination form.
