What is The Shed @ King Ed?
The Shed at King Ed is Brighton’s new Pop-Up vendor space in King Edward Park
Located in the newly renovated ball canteen, The Shed will feature 3 modular vendor spaces for local vendors to showcase their talents and wares. Vendors will rotate throughout the summer so there will always be something new to experience!
This project is aimed at supporting the several online and small businesses in Brighton that don’t have a brick & mortar location, providing them with the opportunity to test the market while also creating a destination to showcase all that Brighton has to offer for local tourists, or those just looking to try something new in the area. NEW this year, we are offering discounted spaces for rent to encourage not-for-profit businesses to utilize the space as part of their fundraising efforts.
For more information, contact us at theshed@brighton.ca or give us a call at 613 475 0670.

COMUNA |
Comuna is an accessories business as well as a private styling company. Carrying all kinds of accessories from earrings, chains, hair accessories, handbags, belts to clothing and much more, there is something to vamp up any outfit.
Diana has a great eye for what’s current and what’s next, which helps her when styling a client for her private shopping services. As Diana states, “I love everything about fashion, especially accessories. You can have the simplest outfit on but when you add the right accessory to your fit you can really stand out.”
The name “Comuna” comes from the Spanish meaning neighborhood. In Colombia, where Diana is originally from, “...we have neighborhoods (Comuna’s) that are extremely vibrant, full of culture and at the forefront of style.” TheseComuna’s are a place where personal style begins and shines. Diana notes “... that style starts in the streets.” The comuna’s are places where style is showcased, and where fashion trends become the future. From there Diana decided that COMUNA was a perfect name for what her accessories and services represented. Her business is more than a store, it’s a community of individuals who all share a love for style!
Dianas career journey began as a social worker for many years, with personal shopping as a side job. When she became a new mother, she knew deep down that her passion was with styling and the fashion industry. With the unconditional support of her husband, Diana took the leap and opened upher own accessories' boutique.
When asked about what keeps Diana motivated during the challenges of owning your own business, Diana knew firsthand about challenges from her experience with the COVID-19 mandates and shutdowns. “Owning your own business brings out a lot of emotions. One day you are excited, the next day you are scared, stressed, exhausted and then happy again. I opened my store months prior to the COVID pandemicand when ithit I had to close my store temporarily.” Thinking like many thatCOVID was going to last no more than two weeks Diana was ok with the store being closed to keep her family and others safe. “The news made me sick to watch, so I welcomed staying at home with my family. But several months flew by and I still was not allowed to open back up” With the bills continuing but more mandates being put into place,Diana decided to set up an online store to help cover the basic costs. “People lost their jobs and the last thing most people were thinking about was fashion. So after some time and giving it my all I had to finally close our doors.” This decision did not come easily to Diana, but on the bright side her love for fashion continued and Diana found ways to keep her dreams afloat. “I think that the saying ‘tough times never last but tough people do’ really resonates with me...Since moving here to Brighton I find myself dreaming of opening a new store where I can combine my passions. Who knows what the future will bring but I think Brighton is a great place to make things happen.”

Knit Happens and Print3D |
Knit Happens makes a variety of knitted items including hats, headbands and plush toys. Print 3D creates 3D printed items including animals, reptiles, dragons, business card holders and more! Darlene and her talented husband are the creators behind these businesses, and happily fell into the craft world after picking up new hobbies during COVID!
Darlene's husband, the creator behind Print3D, has always been a big tech guy. Having gone to university for computer programming and constantly interested in the newest technology trends, he surprised Darlene one day when he brought home a 3D printer! “My first thoughts were oh another toy that he will get bored with! Then I saw what it was capable of and I was mind blown, the things you can make on this are endless and the attention to detail is incredible, it’s quite fascinating!” Darlene said.
Darlene stated, “I am always looking to increase my skill level and push myself to new limits with what I can create with my knitting.” Being in many markets including Applefest, the Big Apple Sunday Markets, and soon moving into Kboodle in the Quinte Mall, Darlene is busy trying to create for all of her customers! “I don’t see many people with 3D printed items and when at markets, the feedback is always excellent and people are fascinated with the prints! They sell very well and we are always making new things every week.” But Knit Happens was not just started for business endeavor, “Growing up I always watched my grandmother and mother knit and always thought it looked difficult but loved the look of things, I mean who doesn’t love handmade! I watched a lot of YouTube videos and it really helped as I am a visual learner. I took it one step at a time and got better at one thing(hats) and moved on from there. I’m still learning to this day as there’s so many different things that can be knitted! Knitting is a time for me to sit and relax in the evenings if I’m not busy.”.
We are so excited to welcome Knit Happens and Print3D into The Shed at King Ed. Stop by the Grand Opening event to check out all of the amazing creations they will have on display!
