If you are being married in a religious or civil ceremony in Ontario, you must obtain a Marriage Licence.
Please note: Marriage Licences are valid for 3 months from the date it is issued. Please only apply for your Marriage Licence if your wedding date is less than 3 months away.
How to get a Marriage Licence
- Review the Getting married page at ServiceOntario.
- Complete the online marriage licence application and payment form. You will need to upload copies of the required identification to verify your information. You will be contacted to make an appointment to sign the licence. Only one applicant needs to be present to sign the licence, but identification and documents for both applicants is required. Both applicants are welcome to attend the appointment at the Municipal Office. If you have any questions, or would like to complete the process offline, please contact the Clerk's Department.
- To get a marriage licence, you will need 2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include your photo. Examples of government-issued identification:
- government-issued birth certificate, including any change of name certificates
- valid passport
- record of immigrant landing
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- valid driver’s licence
- valid Ontario Photo Card
- Your Divorce document, if applicable. We need to see an original or court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Divorce Certificate.

- Licence Processing Hours: Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Licence Fee: $125
After the Ceremony
The officiant will send the signed Marriage Licence to the Province of Ontario - Registrar's Office to be registered.
The newly married couple is given the signed Record of Solemnization of Marriage.
Proof of Marriage / Name Change
You will need to apply for a Marriage Certificate if you need to provide proof of marriage or if you are changing your name. The Marriage Certificate can take up to ten (10) weeks to process. The forms required can be found with the following links:

- A paper copy of the Marriage Certificate application form is provided to all couples along with the Marriage Licence when processed.
Civil Marriage Ceremonies
Civil Marriage Ceremonies are performed by the Municipal Clerk and/or Delegate in the Council Chambers. Marriage Ceremonies are performed Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, based on staff and Council Chambers availability.
The Civil Marriage Ceremony fee is $250 including HST, and is payable by cash or debit card at the municipal office.
A Marriage Licence is required for a fee of $125 before the ceremony can be booked, and both parties will be required to meet with the officiant at least 1 week prior to the marriage.
We will not formalize the marriage of any person if:
- One or both parties are under physical or mental duress
- One or both parties fail to meet the age requirements
- The parties are related as grandparent, parent, child, grandchild, brother or sister
- One or both parties are currently married
- One or both parties are under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and incapable of understanding the nature of the marriage contract and duties, obligations and responsibilities of marriage
