Lakeshore Road / Greenway Circle
Project Summary
The Municipality of Brighton completed drainage improvements along Lakeshore Road and Greenway Circle to address recurring flooding and improve long-term stormwater management in the area.
The project included:
- Construction of a new drainage swale through Greenway Circle.
- Installation of new culverts and roadside drainage improvements.
- Twinning of the existing 1200 mm culvert beneath Lakeshore Road.
- Restoration and cleanout of the outlet channel to Lake Ontario, including a maintenance access route.
- Road and boulevard restoration, landscaping, and naturalization of disturbed areas.
The project was designed by municipal staff and delivered in phases throughout 2024. Public consultation helped shape the final design, and construction was scheduled to minimize impacts on sensitive environmental windows, including fish spawning and migratory bird nesting periods.
The drainage system now provides improved conveyance capacity, reduces localized flooding, and allows municipal staff to safely access and maintain the stormwater outlet to Lake Ontario. The project was substantially completed in November 2024, with final naturalization completed the following growing season.
