Animal Control

The Municipality of Brighton regulates the ownership and control of dogs and cats through the Animal Control By-law. Animal control and pound services are provided by the Northumberland Humane Society on behalf of the Municipality.

Animal Control Services

The Northumberland Humane Society provides animal control services within the Municipality, including:

  • Dogs or cats running at large
  • Stray or untagged dogs
  • Injured dogs or cats found on public property
  • Animal impoundment services
  • Emergency response for confined or secured animals outside regular business hours

If you need to report a stray dog, animal running at large, or have other animal control concerns, please contact the Humane Society directly during business hours.

Deceased Animal Removal

Municipal Roads and Municipal Property

If you find a deceased animal on a municipal road, park or other municipal property, please contact Public Works at 613-475-1162 ext. 111 to request removal.

County Roads

If the animal is located on a Northumberland County road, please contact Northumberland County at 905-372-3329, 1-800-354-7050, or submit a request through the County's online reporting system.

Private Property

Removal of deceased animals from private property is the responsibility of the property owner. Property owners may contact a private animal removal or pest control company.
