Wildlife

Wild animals are an important part of our natural environment. In most cases, wildlife should be left alone unless it is sick, injured, orphaned, or poses an immediate risk to public safety.

The Municipality of Brighton does not provide wildlife removal services or relocate healthy wild animals. If you are experiencing a wildlife issue on your property, you may need to contact a licensed wildlife control company.

Injured or Orphaned Wildlife

If you find injured or orphaned wildlife, contact one of the following licensed wildlife rehabilitation organizations:

• Shades of Hope
• Sandy Pines
• Foster Forest Wildlife Orphanage
• Mallys 3rd Chance Raccoon Rescue
• Ontario Wildlife Rescue

Wildlife on Private Property

Property owners are responsible for addressing wildlife concerns on private property.

Examples include:

• Raccoons in attics
• Skunks under decks or sheds
• Squirrels in buildings
• Bats in homes
• Beavers affecting private property

If wildlife has become a nuisance or entered your home or outbuildings, you may wish to contact a licensed wildlife removal company.

Helpful Tips

Many wildlife encounters can be prevented by:

• Securing garbage and compost bins.
• Removing outdoor food sources, including pet food.
• Keeping bird feeders clean and bringing them indoors if wildlife becomes a nuisance.
• Sealing openings around homes, sheds, and outbuildings.
• Supervising pets when wildlife is present.
