Dog Licences
All dogs 12 weeks of age or older residing in the Municipality of Brighton must be licensed annually. A current dog tag helps identify your pet and allows Animal Control to quickly reunite lost dogs with their owners. Dog licences are valid for the calendar year and must be renewed each year effective January 1. Your dog should wear its current licence tag whenever it is off your property.
Why licence your dog?
Licensing your dog:
- Helps Animal Control identify and return lost dogs to their owners.
- Confirms your dog is registered with the Municipality.
- Supports responsible pet ownership and animal control services within the community.
How to Apply
To purchase or renew a dog licence, please visit the Administration Office at 35 Alice Street, Brighton. Dog licence applications can also be completed online. The forms are available here.
When applying, you will be asked to provide:
- Owner name, address and contact information.
- Your dog's name, age and breed.
- A description of your dog, including colour and identifying markings.
- Whether your dog is spayed or neutered.
Licence Fees
Dog licence fees are established annually through the Municipality's Fees and Charges By-law. Reduced rates are available for spayed and neutered dogs when licences are purchased before the annual deadline.
